Private Messaging App Signal Now Accepts Donations in Cryptocurrencies
The non-profit foundation behind the confidential messaging app Signal is officially participating in the crypto-currency project. In this case, the Signal Foundation has announced that it has started accepting donations in cryptocurrencies.
The Signal Foundation also accepts donations of coins.
According to the announcement on Twitter, the organization encouraged people to organize donations through cryptocurrencies, not limited to Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH).
On its homepage, the fund also supports litecoin (LTC), chainlink (LINK), zcash (ZEC), amp (AMP), Basic Attention Token (BAT), dai (DAI), gemini dollar (GUSD), storj (STORJ) and 0x (ZRX).
The addition of Privacy Coins is in response to requests from some social media users who asked Signal to add cryptocurrencies that fit their privacy philosophy.
Reads a tweet from Signal:
As a non-profit organization, we count on your support. If you’ve been patiently waiting for Signal to accept donations in cryptocurrencies, you won’t have to repay your generosity.
As for the crypto payment processor used, the Signal Foundation said it will process all payments through The Giving Block, a company that specializes in processing crypto donations for nonprofit organizations.
In addition, the team behind the Signal application noted that those wishing to apply for a U.S. tax credit can optionally provide an email address to receive a tax receipt.
The Foundation also stated that the Donations Unit supports anonymous donations.
Crypto-friendly approved application
Signal, founded in 2018 by Moxie Marlinspike and Brian Acton, is a well-known privacy messaging app with more than solid encryption features.
In fact, the app has received global support from crypto-friendly figures such as US whistleblower Edward Snowden, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and Tesla tech giant Elon Musk, who recently urged his Twitter followers to use the app.
Recently, due to the controversy over Whatsapp’s change in terms of service, the number of Signal users skyrocketed within hours.
